Hampton Bay Dehumidifier - Is It Safe?
If you are like some consumers, you might be experiencing problems finding out information about the Hampton Bay dehumidifier. The first
reason this might be is that the HB-50 is a unit that was made in China and sold by Home Depot Stores. On December 17, 2009, there was a recall
issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with Home Depot because there was an internal component that could fail, causing the
unit to overheat, which could cause a possible fire or burns. Home Depot says that the recall is limited to about 2,000 Hampton Bay dehumidifier
units that have four wheels, are beige in color and have model HB-50 printed on the back interior panel, while displaying the Hampton Bay name on
the front.
There have been 18 cases of the Hampton Bay dehumidifier catching on fire and one person reported a burn. The units measure 21 inches high, 13
½ inches wide and 17 ½ inches long. When you look on the Internet, you will find that there are customers that have some complaints about their
Hampton Bay dehumidifier and there are some that like them and have had them for almost 5 years, but there is not always the HB-50 model
mentioned in particular and some of them are people looking for parts for their HB-40 or HB-30 dehumidifier made by the company.
The main lesson to be learned is that there are a few things to look for, when you are hoping to find a reputable and safe dehumidifier for
your home. The first thing is that you will want to do some research, but if there are some components that are deemed unsafe, you need to make
sure your unit is operating properly. There are some customers that have purchased the Hampton Bay dehumidifier from Home Depot and then
experienced problems with them not working while still under warranty and they were referred to The Fedders Company, but did not get their
problems solved.
While there are some customers that are happy with their Hampton Bay dehumidifier, they are probably not the models covered under the recall
and there were a limited amount of the dehumidifiers sold that were affected by the recall and possible injury notices. There are a number of
considerations to look for, when considering a dehumidifier for your home. The best thing to do is talk with your heating and air conditioning
contractor to determine the best dehumidifier for your particular situation. The other thing to consider is that many of the air quality
companies that deal in dehumidifiers will be aware of models that have been recalled or have a high number of problems and you can find out
information on the Internet.
If you are having a hard time find information about a particular model, there might be a reason, although there are often people still
looking for parts and owner's manuals after problems with these units have been discovered. When it comes to a Hampton Bay dehumidifier, there
are still some appliance centers that might sell them and service them, but the only one involved in the recall is the HB-50 model.
